Ribbed Vase ...Murano
« on: April 21, 2014, 07:56:04 PM »
This piece I thought was Murano. I have seen this attributed to Archimedes Seguso. This is only online so could mean nothing or could be right ??  The Remains of the Label have silver/yellow ish colours left but nothing discernible. 14cm in Height.
 Hope this link is ok....http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FOriginal-20th-Century-Murano-Sommerso-Globe-Lobed-Vase-by-Archimede-Seguso-%2F171294082242%3Fpt%3DUK_Art_Glass%26hash%3Ditem27e1ec44c2&h=mAQFU8bFB

Pete, I think links to within Facebook (and other similar sites) do not often fare well on account of needing a sign in to view anything. Certainly gives an error for me.

Archimede Seguso certainly made pieces like this, as did Seguso Vetri d'Arte and other companies. It's a nice piece, a notch above the usual Murano.

Here's a labelled SVd'A piece.  As I wrote, I think many companies  produced these ribbed vases.  I think the piece is of a slightly better quality than the one you show, Ross, although your piece is definitely better than any of the "Genuine Venetian Glass" pieces I have. PIna's "Archimede Seguso" shows on p. 41 a diagonally ribbed (created by twisting the piece in the optic mould, I think), which has similar colours.

However, I still wouldn't say this is definitely an Archimede Seguso or SVdA piece; just that it looks like one of the better made pieces.

We have had these vases on the board before (I can't find the thread at the moment), no conclusive id then either though for a while a Czech origin was considered and later discarded. Good to see a very similar design with a Murano label. I have also seen the vase in question in green and amber - another of the popular murano colour combos.

Kevin... No problem, didn't think of that. I have seen so many labels it hurts but one or two are very close. I will list this soon and see where it goes. Thanks everyone for the help and comments.

A couple of close ups might help find it.

I found a link online that shows a Barbini vase in a similar style. On further searching I have seen the same colourway on another. The label is a good match to the part label on this one. I thought I had attributed correctly on my listing but now have a few doubts. I would appreciate your thoughts. It may be wishful thinking but with finding of makers so difficult on Murano ??. It is listed and finishes soon so hope it is correct or incorrect  ;D  !
