Is this a Vasart or Monart Footed Vase?
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:44:01 PM »
A recent find while on holiday, I wondered if it were Scottish glass - Vasart possibly because it appears to contain Mica flakes. However the pattern and colour threw me a bit. Can anyone please help?
Ronnie

No, this is the unknown Romanian maker that makes combed bits with Mica. Check Frank's site out, there are bits illustrated there.

I bought one one myself  :-[- thinking I'd had a wonderful find for my brother. I paid an ok-ish price for it being the unknown Romanian maker - but a real bargain if it had been Monart.

Which is silly. If you like it, it doesn't matter who made it - and it's a very interesting and good example of this work for an Ysart collector to have.

I agree. Fell in love with it first, then wondered what it was and was trying to unpick the clues.

It's well-made and a compicated thing to do, it's a similar period. And the colours are lovely.
Soft, without being pink and sweet, fluffy pastels.

Below is a link to one the same as your one. The shape is very similar to Monart shape SK, though I don't believe either is Monart.

The shape isn't exactly right. Much agonising was done when I bought my one. ::)
The foot is decidedly wrong.
Frank's site info just hasn't been updated since the discovery of the maker being Romanian. He can't do everything, and his life has been complicated.

Hi,
I had also seen the one in Gary's link, which we know came from an auction  - I emailed the seller but he says his is definitely a Monart !
