Miniature millefiori Perthshire P/W ??
« on: June 17, 2014, 06:56:59 PM »
Hi, is this a Perthshire miniature P/W ? 4cm dia and 3cm tall with a fire polished concave base. I had a look through Franks site but could not see anything.
Many thanks
Malc

Hi Malcolm

It's a Strathearn weight.

Well, not as wrong as you might think.

Given that Perthshire Paperweights was formed and staffed by people out of Strathearn Glass, some of the very early PP weights actually looked much like the Strathearn ones. Sometimes it is hard to decide between them.

Very true. Here's an example of a Perthshire that has strong Strathearn characteristics:

All the comments made are spot on but this picture of miniature weights shows how confusing it can be, Try spotting which are Strathearn and which are Perthshire

I'll take a stab at it.

First row - Strathearn, Perthshire, Perthshire, Strathearn, Perthshire.
Second row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Perthshire, Perthshire, Perthshire.
Third row - Strathearn, Perthshire, Strathearn, Perthshire, Strathearn.
Fourth row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Perthshire, Strathearn, Perthshire

Hi Dave.  Here is my attempt (having decided they might actually all be Strathearn):

First row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Perthshire, Strathearn, Strathearn.
Second row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn, Perthshire, Perthshire.
Third row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn.
Fourth row - Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn, Strathearn

Thanks for your responses and guesses, I posted this picture simply to demonstrate how difficult it can be at times to identify these miniature weights but now I have to confess I am in the same boat as you guys - I do not have a definite answer to give you as none of these weights has a label or signature cane so I can only offer my own opinion.
I think there are 6 Perthshire and the rest are Strathearn and I opt for the end three weights in rows I and 2 . . . .  unless any  else know different !

Dave
