Greener & Co., Sunderland, registered design number 182002 on 30 October 1891. Jenny Thompson describes the registration as for “pattern, mostly imit. cut”.

Until recently, the only reference photo I had for this pattern was of a clear pressed glass double sweetmeat dish with interlaced handles on one side.

Now I have photos to show of a pair of yellow-green uranium glass tumblers (highly reactive to UV light) bearing the embossed registration number 182002. They each measure 7˝ cms high with a 5 cms diameter top and a 4 cms diameter base.

(Permission for the re-use of the images of these tumblers on the GMB granted by Kevin Collins).

A similar tumbler was discussed by Bernard C. at
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,13368.msg86987.html#msg86987
but only with a link to his photo on the Glass Queries Gallery rather than the photo itself for show.

Although I have seen examples of a number of Greener & Co. pieces in various coloured glasses (including amber, blue, various marbled opaque, clear opalescent, blue opalescent, butterscotch opalescent, and yellow opalescent), the only other Greener & Co. piece I can recall seeing in ‘plain’ [without any opalescence] yellow/ yellow-green uranium glass is a rustic-handled basket ( bearing their RD 95935, 16 Mar 1888, in the basket and RD 96776, 27 Mar 1888, on the handle).

Dave Peterson showed a yellow-green uranium creamer from Angus & Greener’s RD 209161, 26 June 1867, at http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,36031.msg195877.html#msg195877
He also has a photo of a yellow uranium glass example of the Henry Greener RD 23691, 7 December 1869, ‘Peabody’ cup at
http://www.vaselineglass.org/gpgreenerL.jpg

and there is also a commonly found yellow uranium flared and footed vase attributed to an unregistered Henry Greener design.

Does anyone have photos to show of other ‘plain’ yellow or yellow-green uranium glass pieces from Angus & Greener, Henry Greener, or Greener & Co., please?

Fred.

I do have a blue uranium Greener basket http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=2210 and a yellow uranium basket http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=4 Registration lozenge where the handle joins the base. Deposition number 238105, 14 January 1870. And I believe this is Greener because of the handle, which matches the baskets above

Thank you, Christine.

I hadn't seen photos of Henry Greener's marked RD 238105 baskets before.  I think that this is the first time that I have come across 'plain' blue uranium glass pieces from any of the Greener incarnations - I'm fairly sure that the other examples of Greener's plain transparent blue glass that I have come across did not fluoresce under UV light.

Interesting too the Henry Greener link to the unmarked basket via the handle shape (and the similar uranium glass) - nice detective work.

The blue uranium surprised me too but the glow is very bright. You can see the green hint without a UV light.

Here are some photos of a ‘plain’ (non-opalescent) yellow-green uranium glass version of the Greener & Co. RD 182002 double-dish shown in clear glass in my opening post of this thread.

A comport in ‘plain’ (non-opalescent) yellow-green uranium glass by Greener & Co. RD 176239, registered 10 August 1891., 11cm high x 15cm top diameter.

The design registration was for the 'naturalistic' foliate top.

Here are some more examples of Greener and Co, RD 182002 for your records.
Examples of tumblers are 3 inches as previously reported and 4 1/2 inches.
Oval yellow bowl is 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches x 1 3/4 inches deep.
Oval blue plate is 9 inches x 6 1/2 inches.

Thank you, Margaret.

I find it interesting that there seem to be far more opalescent yellow uranium glass pieces than non-opalescent yellow uranium glass pices from Greener & Co.

I don't know if the formulation of the opalescent and non-opalescent yellow glass metals differed, or if both had the same formulation but the non-opalescent pieces were simply not re-heated after removal from the mould so that any potential opalescence would not have been 'activated'.

A lidded biscuit barrel in non-opalescent green uranium glass by Greener & Co., RD 182002. Embossed RD number to interior of the lid and the interior base of the barrel itself.

Some photos of Greener & Co. Rd 182002 shot glasses as in my opening post, but this time with a matching small jug or pitcher.

(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by Kevin Collins).

Although the glass in this case is a rather unprepossessing pale transparent yellow, all the pieces react well to UV light.
