Strathearn weight?
« on: August 29, 2014, 02:36:25 PM »
Hi all, this weight is about 5cm ht and 6.5 wide with a fire polished base with wear to the outer rim,i think what makes it slightly different is it's missing a blue cane on the outside ring, somehow i would guess unlike stamps that doesn't increase the value, first one made after a liquid lunch maybe? ;D

Hi.  In my experience the odd missing cane reduces the value a little, rather than making it special and of higher value (eg in stamp collecting, as you say).

I don't think it is a 'liquid lunch' issue: canes do not always adhere fully on pick-up, especially if the temperatures of the canes and gather are not optimal. It looks rather as if the red cane fell sideways, and knocked the blue one out just as the canes were being picked up.

Or the red cane could have smothered the blue one and squashed it into the white ground.

But yes, a Strathearn weight with very typical thick white twists.
