Pink to clear studio style vase, silverchloride applications
« on: September 04, 2014, 03:45:44 PM »
No idea about this vase:

pink fading to clear, with a broad sliverchloride spiral running around.
Nicely finished base with a circular polished pontil mark, and the rim of the base cut and polished (with quite some wear).
Height 24 cm, weight 1.2 kg.

Any help highly appreciated as usual!
Michael

Has me thinking of some of the Australian bits that have been posted here.

Not so much this one but perhaps worth a look: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,47520.0.html

I doubt the suggested Australian connection. There's nothing that resonates particularly, and that refined base finish is rare in the local product. The use of silver chloride as a painted decoration mostly predates the body colour used on this item.

Thank you both for your thoughts, very much appreciated!
As I am clueless with this vase I even would have believed in an Australian attribution (though rather unlikely to find Australian glass here)...

So would you think rather studio than factory glass for this vase?
I checked very carefully, no signature to be found...

Forgot to describe that it is partially cased (can be seen in the first pic, just below the rim). And the sliverchlorides are on a thin glass layer that winds round the vase...

There is something about it that looks like Jindrich Beranek to me. I have seen several different base finishes for his work, at different times, I think he produced in different places and not all pieces have the same base finish, I expect you have ruled this out though, owning a several pieces ...

Thank you very much Robert!
Somehow I didn't think of Jindrich Beranek.
The shape is something he might have done, the surface decoration would be rather unusual.

So far I have not seen this base finish on any J. Berank piece (his pieces have a flat polished base with a very wide circular pontil mark usually covering 90% if the base).
But I haven't seen them all ;)
