Blue honeycomb white encased frilled vase help please.
« on: September 06, 2014, 02:13:34 PM »
Hello does anyone recognise this, i'm not sure if it's Victorian or 1960's, there are a few broken bubbles inside and a rough pontil with not much wear to the base.

It's 5 inches in height, 4 inches across the rim.

Does anyone know if these "non-air trap" versions (for want of a better phrase) were also made in many countries.

I tend to think that "non-air trap" might mean "Stourbridge", but that's probably just because of a bad habit of believing auction catalogues!

Kev, I'm a bit confused by your questions. How do you know it is 'non air-trap' and not created using an air trap method please?
And what do you mean by believing non air-trap pieces mean Stourbridge?
Sorry, I've just got a bit lost somewhere probably  :-[

The pattern shows ribbing which is not cased in clear glass, especially noticeable on the underside of the base. Since it is not cased it is not "air trap".

I first became aware of this distinction several years ago when I saw two vases of diamond pattern (matching an example I already owned) in a London auction room which were described as "Stourbridge air-trap" ... but were not cased!

It's not air trap but Victorian seems OK
