Small Aurene something? Help
« on: September 11, 2014, 11:58:17 PM »
One more of the Grandmas' collection, is a small gold aurene thumb indented something? I don't know the first place to even start research since I'm not sure what to call it!  ??? Its about 2 1/4" tall and 1 1/2" wide. It was with her other Quezal salts and bowls but I don't see any identifying marks.

Salviati made many in this shape, loads of different colours and styles. May be worth looking into Loetz as well as I think I saw something with a similar shape.

Ive done a little bit more research, and at least know that they are calling this a 'toothpick holder'. I have viewed a few L.C.T ones....I looked for the 'Salviati' and haven't quite found the same Gold  Aurene colored one.

No.

Is it because the shape is wrong or is it that the "aurene" is wrong? By judging from googling the WMF pieces seem to have more iridescense than this one?

It is not a matter of picking a preference.  This is no wmf. The shape is 100% salviati. Lct is rather unlikely.

I'm not asking because I doubt you. I have no experience handling pieces like this so it's only for my own education.

I am so glad that I have found this Message Board. I am learning a whole lot of new things about something I wasn't interested in until I started dealing with my Grandmothers estate, and all the 1000's of antiques she has.  I have only gotten through two boxes. Several more to go.......so look for new pictures of things I cant find....Thanks again to everyone who has responded!
