Topic: Large Vase, applied exterior, Studio Glass / Czech? ID = Hlava Skrdlovice

Hi All,

Thought this was an interesting and well made piece of glass.  Quite a heavy and large example weighing 3642 grams and measuring 16cms wide and 15cms tall.

Produced in a cobalt blue colour, which has then been cased around the centre with a amber coloured layer of glass and then heavily cased in clear. The raised exterior looks to have been applied in the forms of small individual disc like sections and then possibly marvered together. The raised exterior has a subtle metallic like iridescent finish.

Smooth, highly polished base.

All thoughts most welcome.

Not too difficult an attribution for Skrdlovice collectors really...... I am sure Anik and Rocco were near to posting too! These vases are great though, like little planets.

Thanks, they are indeed great pieces and very tactile too, one of the nicest Skrdlovice pieces I have had the pleasure of encountering.

It has taken me up until now, since I read this thread, before I have been able to add my OWN Hlava... s.
I found one at the Fair the other week, then I found another one in america.

Posting images only because I have to add them because they are the different shapes to yours, Greg. 
Nothing to do with showing off, not in the slightest. 

But the bottom line is; I still do not have a real ball. 
Della very kindly sent me the catalogue, so I know what sizes they should be.
16cm x 20cm and 12cm X 24cm. (The true ball should be 17cm x 20cm)

But their actual dimensions are 15cm x 17cm and 12cm x 23cm.

The blue colour fades to be completely clear by around half way down the bottom of the elliptical-shaped one, but in the near-ball one, the blue layer is all the way through - even in the base.
The outer, clear casing on the elliptical one is really, really thick, but much thinner on the near-ball.
Photographs will never do these things justice. They're complex and do all sorts of strange and wonderful things.

They are lovely! I have never seen an elliptical one in real life.
I have a ball shaped one, but like the shape of yours better.
Their beauty is hard to capture in a picture, indeed...
