Topic: Question about fault lines or cracks?

Hi all,i have in my possesion what i take to be a Perthshire 12 spoke weight and under close inspection noticed a line in the pink ground,not spreading into the outer glass though,is this a common fault,how does it happen and would it have made it a second when made,thanks in advance for any input.

I do not know what that "fault line" is. It does not look like a crack.

Given that the fault is not visible from the top view of the weight, it would be unlikely that it would have been regarded as a "second". In fact, information is that, from some point, the quality control at Perthshire Paperweights was such that any noticeable defect in any weight would have meant it would have been broken and tossed in the bin!

The line looks raised. If so, it wouldn't be a crack. In the coin world, something like that would be caused by a crack in the die used to strike the coin. I don't know if there's a step in the weight making process that would be analogous.
