Riz-de-verre
« on: November 29, 2014, 09:52:18 AM »
Has anyone come across the description of riz-de-verre (glass rice) for the decoration on the bowl of a wineglass? The picture is of a glass from the 18th century, certainly European, whose bowl is so described. Any ideas where it might have been made and when? Liège?

Never came across that description and it would seem it is a half misunderstood variation of 'pate de riz' . a grainy opaline variant.

I've now come across this sort of honeycomb moulding described as 'rice grain' in Glass in the Rijksmuseum Vol 1.
