Art glass bowl, possibly Finnish / Kumela
« on: December 05, 2014, 07:18:40 AM »
Hello, I wonder if anyone here might be able to help identify this bowl?
It was bought in Finland, labelled "Kumela 50's / 60's" - however I have been unable to find anything similar from Kumela's production using Google, and the Finnish glass museum at Riihimäki has also been unable to identify the bowl.  There is no signature, which I would have thought unusual for a unique piece.

The bowl has a shallow depression, is approximately 22cm diameter by 6cm high, and is hand blown.  It's quite heavy, about 800g.  The coloured glass is green with a hint of turquoise and the colour goes right through to the base.

It seems very similar to online images I have seen of the German WMF factory's "Colora" range from the 50's, but from what I can make out, those have the coloured glass completely encapsulated in clear, whereas in this bowl the colour goes right through to the base.  Also, those seem to be larger, and visually somewhat lighter.

I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has any thoughts!
With thanks in advance,
"Pihlaja63"

It has similarities with Flygsfors perhaps, but not sure of the shape, or possible Holmegaard?
sorry, not really my field!

Thanks, I'd found those earlier too, as you say there are similarities, but that's as far as it goes.   Maybe this one will have to remain a mystery!

A couple of years ago I posted a query on a similar item, somewhat larger and heavier, and more blue than turquoise. It did not attract any replies.

A few companies seem to have made similar and they tend to fall into a category of 'no one knows with any certainty'. Possibilities may include Bayel and Ryd.
