Two unrelated crystal (I think) glass identification
« on: January 15, 2015, 08:38:33 PM »
Greetings and salutations!

I was wondering if you fine gentlemen and gentleladies could help me identify these items that I was given by my Grandma before she passed away.

The photos were too large to attach so I made them puu.sh :)

http://puu.sh/ez2IX/731ca7e8d9.jpg - side by side shot

http://puu.sh/ez2OH/67d86662a4.jpg - mark on square bottom glass

http://puu.sh/ez39f/0edbec56a5.jpg - mark on smaller glass

Sorry about the terrible photos, getting a picture of a hallmark isn't so easy!

I doubt they are worth anything but would be great to know where they came from (she was from Belgium during the war)

Thanks very much!

Sam

Hello,

The square footed glass is made by Val St Lambert, marked S for (Joseph) Simon.
I can't really make out from the image if the body of the glass is faceted but it looks like Service Gondole 1930.

Thank you very much!

I assume faceted means it is cut inwards? (I'm sure that sounds ridiculous but I have no idea about these things)
Seems right, makes sense with the Belgian link. Any idea on the smaller one?

I've found it from your suggestion, I believe this is it -    http://puu.sh/ezgSX/a6601046de.jpg

Also, i just realised I have some different sized ones  -  http://puu.sh/ezgZL/cf8140429b.jpg

Thanks again :)

With faceted I meant panelled... if that makes sense...

Ooops, sorry just changed my last post before you posted this.

Yes makes complete sense, although it's not like this http://puu.sh/ezhhf/1300aa9a02.jpg which I got when searching for service gondole

No that's correct, because it's the same model Gondole, 'taille Losange' from 1946, yours is a little earlier.

Just to show you and confirm the dates for this signature... nr 17 on this list...

What the Italian one concerns, I haven't got a clue, probably because I don't know what I'm looking at...what is it? A sheep, after turning the image a quarter towards the left?

Hi Sam, welcome to the Board.

Could you please start a new thread for the Italian glass (and place in the Murano & Italy forum - as its mark confirms the country ID). We can then keep discussions separate and for future reference.

Also it is helpful for later reference if you add you own images permanently into the thread via the "attach" facility at the foot of the "new post" function.

A moderator can clean up the threads as needed when the Italy glass has its own message.
