perhaps the Continental system of capacities is different to ours........... their glasses do seem often to show an engraved indication of an intended volume.
Here there seems no specific method of differentiating between a large or small glass of wine - other than that they obviously do differ in volume, but the capacity isn't marked on the glass - specific sized glasses are used for pints and half pints - and shorts are measured by means of volume within the air lock of the dispensing bottle.
But for some reason it seems we don't use engraved marks on glasses.
Of course it could be that we do mark glasses, and I just don't get out enough
