Any ideas on this please and what it might be used for.  It's about 8" high.  Had a scout round and have seen similar Val St Lambert pieces but this piece is unsigned

I have never seen this model in a VSL catalogue, but that doesn't mean anything of course... personally I'd've gone for Germany...Nachtmann and some other houses did similar things in the 50ies....
