Topic: unusually large three digit matching No.

Can anyone top this..............  a three digit matching No. 183.           Have seen many over the years, but don't recall seeing anything over the one hundred mark, or even close to it.
Unfortunately, the stopper was missing when I bought it.          Height of the body only is 4.75" (120 mm).

Assume this piece is something like a cologne or maybe a small liqueur, and the No. is inscribed just inside the neck, and I'm tempted to suggest Continental origin in view of the style of script of the '1'.

Anyone get higher than 183 ?

Paul speaking from the other side of the pond I've never seen a 3 digit number on a piece of cut & I agree its either a cologne or perfume. Indented pontil would not be the norm over here as ours are usually ground flat with a cut star of some design. Good news is I think odds are with you finding a cut stopper that will fit if your shops/boots over there are anything like ours where you can run across a cut stopper or two & most of these type cut stoppers are of like if not close to identical design.

thanks Ken - I like your style of optimism re finding a replacement stopper - expect you're right and that something acceptable will turn up some time.

I forgot to say that the base is in line with your comments about States pieces  -  this one does have the flat ground/polished base you mentioned, plus a smallish 16 point cut star, so perhaps from your side of the pond.
My comments about a possible Continental origin were simply because I seemed to have some notion that the way the 1 has been written - with the slightly longer lead in serif at the top - looked more Continental than British  -  but I'm really not sure that such a small feature is a reliable guide to origin.      Now, had it been a seven, well a lot easier .............

don't let the form of the digits be too persuasive as many of the cut glass makers in America came from Europe, much as was the case with our porcelain industry for much of the 19th century. if it is American it would be an earlier piece.

thanks.....   I'd not really given much thought to origin or age  -  just occupied with the unusual No.
Really no idea as to where is might have been made, other than thinking vaguely the Continent  -  and as to age would probably plump for somewhere in the first third of the C20.
The cutting is quite sharp, although nothing special, and the fan splits and strawberry diamonds fairly run of the mill decoration.
