possible simon gate dish
« on: April 06, 2015, 07:34:31 PM »
Bought this dish recently believing it to be a deco piece of orrefors but am not sure if the SG signature (Simon gate) was used on
this era of glass.
Any help decoding the base Is appreciated.
It stands 75 mm high and is 150 mm across the top.
Thank you.

No idea exactly when this was designed but Simon Gate worked for Orrefors from 1916 to 45. This bowl was made after 1970 though, this is when Orrefors started to use SG for Gate's initials, previously it had been just a G. Many designs were produced for many decades, lovely bowl...

Info is from Pina's Scandinavian Glass books.

Thanks for the info John, maybe not just enough wear on the base should have told me that.
Would be nice to know about the number code for the date of design and maybe the name of the range.
Thanks again.
Tim
