It's only a small item, but it's very special to me, and I thought some members might like to see it. What is it? A lampworked iridised Dragon.
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=142My daughter bought it for me (in fact it was specially made for me in iridised glass) at the Glassblobbery studio in North Wales, a couple of weeks ago. It arrived in the post from the studio yesterday.
I believe they routinely make larger dragons in iridised glass, but not the little ones, so I don't think there are too many exactly the same as him. The leaflet that came with him states:
Technically our work is known as lamp work or bench glass blowing. Each piece is made free hand within the tight confines of the flame area. The flame is over 2000 C and varying thicknesses of glass rod are used to build up the shape of whatever is being created. The finished item is then fired in the kiln to even out the stress that builds up while the object is being made.
They do have a website, shown on the leaflet. It's
www.glassblobbery.com if anyone wants to have a peek.
