Topic: ORREFORS ENGRAVED 1926 DECANTER INFORMATION PLEASE!!!

Purchased this decanter today at an estate sale in Mountain Home, North Carolina (USA) for $40.00(USD), which I thought to be  a good deal.
Now I would like to know a little more about it:
Do you think the stopper is correct?
The designer, engraver, year produced and anything else you may be able to tell me about this piece.
Any and all comments are most welcome.
I hope the pictures are good enough. A little powder was added to better see the mark on bottom.

According to Andy McConnell's 'Decanter' book, Simon Gate and Edward Hald produced bottles with cork stoppers - some with rings like this one - during the first half of the C20 which includes the period this one appears to have been made.
On that basis, there is no obvious reason to imagine that yours is a replacement stopper, but perhaps not possible to be absolutely certain  -  but it does look the part, and likely to be correct.

Some big names, both in Scandinavia and northern Europe, were creating these engraved bottles, with what I suppose would be called Modernist decoration............    I bet there will be a few people here envious of what you have. .....  very nice bottle, and a good price.

Would imagine you must obviously realize that the designer was Simon Gate  -  the rather over-done anatomical features are typical of his nudes  -  I see there is another similar ish bottle on the internet at the moment for which the seller is quoting a date of 1928.     The other numerals appear to be the code for this particular design.           According to the books, earlier glass is signed Gate, with later pieces showing Simon Gate  -  apparently he joined Orrefors around 1916.

That is a decidedly superior find & as Paul pointed out a decidedly superior price...on the you stole it side & were lucky to have avoided arrest.

If I did not buy it yesterday and no one else did either...it would be half that price today. Guess I am going to make the trip again to make sure there is nothing else I could steal.

Although Gate's designs are included in what is probably known as the Modernist style, his decorations and images owe a lot to Baroque (the heavy outlined borders), plus usually a nod towards neo-classical and even Venetian influence.

I wasn't aware of his rather sad and tragic end after being one of the C20 greatest engravers.         His wife left him some time in the late thirties and he took a greater interest in the contents of the bottles rather than the glass itself, eventually dying a debtor, apparently.

Bottle of this shape, from the Continent and Scandinavia, are sometimes described as being for Schnapps - might this be the case here?
