Art nouveau, satin vase, ID help please
« on: May 04, 2015, 08:23:44 AM »
Height--24cms
Wt--316gms
Stem green, shading from mid to dark.
Conical base, with snapped off pontil mark.
Bowl which has been shaped to represent a flower, consists of three layers.
Outer--deep yellow with plum colour decoration.
Centre---white
Inner---white at bottom shading to plum at top.
Opaque because of the satin finish,( some of which has been worn off in places).
The stem knop area very smooth as a result of handling.
Any comments/opinions?

Looks very modern to me. The satin finish can't wear off if it is a proper finish, i.e., acid treated if old or sand blasted if newer.

.... or made where environmental considerations have not been discovered yet. Like Mexico, India or Kazakstan.

Hi---yes, I think you're probably both right. It looks as if it's been fairly crudely made and the surface is quite granulated. There are also what look like fine stress marks ( only seen under a lens) between the bowl and stem.
Still, quite an attractive piece----there's no accounting for taste!
Thanks for your replies

Hi---I was thinking, could this be a scavo piece and not satin. The granular nature of the surface made me reconsider.
I'm not sure what the difference is however.
