Hi,
Don't have the time to translate the whole site, nor am I aware of a French language site that carries early BRNs, but two observations.
Both figures are related by carrying a BRN, but not necessarily by country of manufacture.
Dirk's figure is known to me, in two variants, one an ashtray, and Dirk's form.
The ashtray form I have seen did not carry a BRN.
I have an idea that Dirk's item originated in central Europe, possibly Czechoslovakia, due to the quality, and possibly BRN'ed for the Francophone market.
Regards,
Marcus

'Brevet' just means 'patent'

Saw this today in a shop for a few pence and decided too chance my arm i dont really know why but it "reminded" me of  the deco centrepieces you get in some bowls made by the like of walther and bagley etc...??? The thing is it hasnt that much quality. Anyhow i finaly have plucked up the courage too list it here dont laugh me off i think it was one of those impulse buys again lol. It measures 7" long and 6" tall is a nice sort of colour not much detail with a hollow foot up inside the main body there is a raised stamp inside BREVN then a set of about 6 numbers. Im thinking now it might just be a piece of repro that some shops do now but just thought id try and check it out i had no luck with google whatsoever sorry in advance if im a time waister!! :spls:

Two observations (due to the time they took a moment to sink in):
- your lady has different measures to mine, so they come in several sizes.
- Does the lettering inside the foot really start with ´BREV N´? This would underline Bernhard´s
theory, that `BRN´ stands for Brevet No.. Can you give us the exact number, please?

Perhaps this thread should be merged with the other? Dear Mods?

Mod: done as suggested, thanks Dirk :)

Just been having a look through Marcus's link on the other thread only a quick scan, the brevet is just a patent number and stops people/companies exploiting your invention for a maximum of 20 years, I think as I only scanned an id can be also obtained for the same purpose and protects for a max of 6 years.  Will look more later.  It did mention pharmaceuticals also so would that link in with the Avon thought?

It would have been patents for any invention, not just pharmaceuticals. If these are brevet numbers, it should be possible to work out who took out those patent numbers specifically.

As a fluent french speaker, this ia a wild goose chase! Numero de brevet is never abbreviated in French to BRN in my knowledge.Numero always comes first, not the British parlance of "brevet registration Number" (BRN).
I reckon it is EE in origin.
