Help needed to ID maker of this sweet little dish
« on: May 24, 2015, 12:54:36 PM »
This small footed dish is 1.73 inches high and 2.75 inches at widest. Any help on maker would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Ronnie

The general style and colouring suggests Caithness - but I'm not so sure about how the base is finished off.

you may well be correct Sue  -  the colourway looks like 'Jade' from the 1992 Caithness catalogue from the 'Prelude' range  -  these were mainly dressing-table accessories, trinket bowls, perfume flasks and sprays.       This one looks like it could be one of the posy vases/bowls  -  very minty :)

edited to add..........    not so sure now  -  the spirals on this one look to be rather close  -  the Prelude pieces had spirals set wider apart :-\

Thank you both for info. I had ruled out Caithness because it just didn't look and feel like Caithness Glass. It is a heavy cased glass dish/bowl with polished, rounded rim and the pontil mark didn't seen to fit the bill either. I would agree with Paul that the spiral design is tighter than the Caithness design.

It's only 2.75" wide at its widest - the small size may have something to do with the stripes being closer?
I can't make out the exact texture of the background colours.
And as Ronnie says, the fire-polished rim is odd and I'm not sure about the base finish.
But again, differences might be due to the very small size? It's a totty pot!

The background is almost cloudy and at 135g/4.25 ozs, this small bowl is heavier than I would expect for Caithness of that size.

P.S Have just looked at Prelude Jade on Scotlands Glass - definitely not the same.
