Have you any talc or even some flour you could swipe over the base to bring the lettering up? If a smidgen is left over the base too, it cuts down on reflections and glare.
Photographing glass isn't easy.  ::)

I can see the "thorn" lettering - but I'm sure there's more I just cannot make out.

So the next thing to find out is who or what Thorneycroft of London was - and if they existed.
For a London glassmaker, perhaps our Adam Aaronson might know?

It's not a name I'm familiar with and it is not mentioned anywhere on the chart I have depicting the Glasshouse history.
In the early '70s, there were students from America who came and worked at the RCA, a few of us have pieces by Wayne Filan - a visiting student, circa '71.
Silver salts were used at the RCA. :)

Hi Sue

Thanks for your help , i have found a couple of A Thorneycroft paperweights online and  a glass goblet being sold as '' A Thorneycroft '' which looks a little like mine on Ebay.

The problem being the description was  vague , so I am guessing they knew little about the maker.

I've done a little google - and it brought me straight back here to this thread (link below). Where we have some very helpful comments from Adam Aaronson. Whew! ;D
