hi, could you also please wipe a little talcum powder or cornflour over the signature, wipe the excess off with your thumb, and retake the photo?
The talc brings the mark out.
Looking at the goblet, I was wondering if it might be George Elliot, but I can't see the signature well enough to work out if that's what it might say.

This isn't "vaseline" glass. "Vaseline" glass is an american term which tends to cover most Uranium glass, although strictly speaking, it should be a mixture of both opalescent and uranium glass - like the Davidson Pearline.
Opalescent glass has a "fire" inside it when held up to the light - like Lalique stuff. It's not just another term for milky glass, which would be opaline.
I think your goblet has coloured enamels - in an opaline and a yellow as well as others, and from the look of the base, it probably has some silver salts in it, which would be doing all sorts of different coloured effects, hazy blues, yellows, ochres and possibly silvery blue deposits on the outside.
A sheet of plain A4 paper is fine for a background.
You will find a whole load of techie tips for posting images (you just need to find the right set of instructions for your own systems) and other info about the board, here.
