Anyone any ideas about this clear vase?
« on: June 29, 2015, 05:51:12 AM »
Hi.  Very long shot here, but has anyone any ideas about this clear glass vase (date / maker).  Bought by a friend on a 'well known auction site' which claimed it to be Murano.  Measures 22 cms tall x approx 7 cms across at the widest part and weighs 650 gms.  Blown glass with a ground out polished pontil and the rim is not sheer but rounded.  I've posted a couple of images that may help.  Many Thanks

Almost impossible to pinpoint as there were many makers of this shape in the 1960s and 1970s. Depending on your location you might consider Caithness, Maastricht, one of the many Germans or a Swedish glass maker. Murano is the most unlikely...

When I first saw it I though Swedish (but the lack of a mark made me doubt this) or Swedish influenced design.  I even wondered about Ikea or Habitat but I'm not sure if they ever had glass produced for them with the ground out polished pontil.  When he told me it had been described as Murano I thought not but was looking for a second opinion.  As you say virtually impossible to pinpoint but I was hoping that maybe someone had seen/owned a similar vase with a label.  I'll carry on trawling the web, I may find something.  Thanks
