Glass mark help
« on: June 30, 2015, 03:17:00 PM »
I have acquired a rather lovely turquoise oval shaped glass dish.It is smooth inside and fluted on the underside.
I am having trouble deciphering the marking as my eyesight is so bad.

To me it looks like a horses head or a seal?
Any suggestions guys?
Cant uploasd pics as Im having trouble getting pixels right size..
King regards
Amanda

It's a Sowerby mark. If you post a picture of the whole thing we can probably help you with a model number

It's a Sowerby 2634 bowl. I'm surprised it's marked as the design is 40s/50s and the colour and flatter shape are late 1960s/early 1970s (Cottle p46). They must have used a very old base plate. Marked Sowerby is generally the old stuff

It's not a fake (there's no value in faking these) and probably not that rare, just unusual. Many Sowerby designs were used for many years in various forms, including the 2634 range.
