Fake Galle pink poppy cameo vase help please.
« on: July 14, 2015, 04:27:27 PM »
This is a beautifully made piece of glass that only cost me £2.99 today from a charity shop, i'm pretty sure it's a fake as there is no polished pontil and it looks relatively new, i'm wondering if it's an 80's Japanese fake?

It has an acid finished interior which is mould blown smooth, there is no etching from the inside or depressions in the interior of the glass. Looking on the Internet nothing old by Galle was signed TIP, there are three lines in the base where the pontil should be. The rim has be left smooth with no acid treatment.

9 1/2 inches in height.

Any thoughts regards Chris.

Pretty sure the Tip means it must be Rumanian (and yes essentially a fake)
Cheers

Perhaps this is not new, but I came across this article recently, it explains how these vases are made which I thought was interesting to read... as you scroll down there are a few illustrations as well...

The "realorrepro" article referred to above is very useful but seems only to apply to certain repros made within the last 10 years or so.

The "Tip Galle" items have been around longer than 10 years and appear to have been made with generally similar techniques as the originals they copy.

When I had a good look the copies are ground from the inside out, why if these people are so talented can't they make there own cameo glass without the nouveau influences look even better?
