« on: August 02, 2015, 02:23:15 PM »
Hi,I don't think this little piece is any great shakes,it does have a strong T mark on the base and at the same time not looking like a glass made about 1870?so maybe continental?there is good wear on the bits it sits on,about 10cm high, thanks.   PS when I took the photo this little chap turned up,I hope a lady bird and not a Colorado beetle!!!

The "chap" is certainly not a Colorado beetle. :)

Whether it is a "Harlequin ladybird", and therefore part of the invasion of that non-native species through England, is hard to say. According to websites, if it is less than 5 mm in length, then it is not a "harlequin ladybird". If it is about 7 -8 mm length, it may well be.

Thanks Kevin, the crack in the wood is 3 mm so it may well be a Harlequin!i don't want this thread to go a bit ukip, but they do eat the native ladybird when food is scarce, got here in 2004 from Asia apparently.
