Arculus high dome ?
« on: August 04, 2015, 04:55:51 PM »
Hi all, when I first saw this weight I couldn't make my mind up what it was because of the bright colours, but looking at it more closely it has to be an old English and the uninhibited craftsmanship is pushing me towards Arculus, any thoughts many thanks.

We have a very similar piece, and we think it is Arculus or Walsh Walsh. It is difficult to say which, as Walsh Walsh bought the Arculus factory around 1930.

Hi

Just another style.  It is an example of a cane that varies considerably in design, from a 'four paned window' through to the '7/6' cane, and various letters!  It is formed by folding and re-folding two colours, before encasing and pulling.  I wrote an article about these in the 2006 PCA Bulletin, titled 'Alphabet Soup'.
