Topic: Is this a Boston & Sandwich 'Crown' master salt, please help I.d.

Hi,
I've seen this recent find described as a Boston & Sandwich U.S.A. 'Crown' pattern master salt circa 1840/50. I've also seen one with a reference to Barlow & Kaiser #1485 and a comparison to the 'Imperial Salt of Bakewell,Pears & Co. seen here: http://opensalts.us/References/Catalogs/catalogs-USA.html (there's also an 'Imperial' version by McKee shown in 3 catalogues on the same website).
I'd really appreciate any information,views or opinions.
I'd just like to add a recommendation for the opensalts.us website. For those of you who have an interest in pressed glass it's an absolute must view imho.

I don't think so. These are not uncommon here and the early US glass is unusual, especially the less well known makers. I have this one pegged as possibly Edward Moore http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=824. I must have found it somewhere

That's a cracking salt, and what a great colour. It's very similar to mine, but there are differences when you compare the overhead shots and the lower sections of the rim and foot(see pics). My one has a more 'Tudor rose' type appearance from above.

I hear what your saying about the unlikely  chance of it being by Boston & Sandwich and I realise there's every chance of it being a copy or similar type, but so far they are the only attributions I've seen that are a match visually and dimensionally.

Hi Christine,
Just a thought, butcould your Edward Moore attribution have come from the similarities both our salts bear to #206 pictured here: http://opensalts.us/References/Catalogs/England/ENG-Moore1870-aW.jpg ? I'm not convinced about the rim though.
