Mantle Vases, Signed in Silver
« on: September 18, 2015, 08:14:00 PM »
Long story short I drove 60 miles to help out a lady I've known for years who inherited some glass from her aunt. Among the glass were these two mantle vases, 17" height, 9 3/4" diameter, lace enameling on one side & gold enameling on the other, signed in silver script & yes it is silver. Now the signatures on both are not large & they are difficult to read. I thought I couls make out an S. Salviati which of course would be italian, but not 100% certain. Rims are ground & no pontils. She took the photos after I left & well the signature photo is not great, but she is not a photographer. I tried to contrast it as best I could. Signature is 2 1/2" length on top & 3 1/4" on bottom. I cannot manipulate ut any better especially since its silver. Any ideas on signature appreciated. Ken

Oh sorry, I thought you'd figured out the Salviati bit ... could it be a number or a hesitant start of the signature underneath Salviati?  ???

this one is signed also - Salviati Venezia

The V on yours is very curly at the top of the down and up stroke of the V which might account for seeing what looks like more numbers or letters before the V  - not entirely sure what the S might be before the Salviati, unless it was an 'error' to the start of the name or a shadow of some sort?

Wanted to thank everyone for the assistance for my friend. That silver signature was difficult to read even with magnification & I never would have figured out the Venezia
portion.  She is keeping them for display in her living room. Ken
