Bubbly/Cloudy Cased Waisted Vase w/ French Label
« on: September 28, 2015, 08:07:28 PM »
I bought a small lot of these last year, and never found out who made them.

Waisted vases of opal white base decorated with bubbles, coloured chips and insoluble powders, heavily cased in clear. Moulded base (except for one with a cut/polished base), cut/polished top rim. 160mm/70mm.

Foil label to the side of one, proclaiming its handmadeness, in French. Seller I bought them from was from France, and he said he thought the glass was French.

So I would assume French!

Any help gratefully received.

... or made for the French market, of course. I know Empoli  used French labels for the French market.

Mais naturellement. Or a French-speaking country other than France.

Although, did the Empoli factories finish very much of their glass with cut'n'polish? I'm only familiar with the fire-polished stuff, personally.

Etiquette distributeur is also possible. Cut and polished tops are quite unusual in France. I cannot imagine ever seeing it there, unless on imported verre Bohémien.

Now that you mention Czech, they do look rather Czech-ish. Never occurred to me! Although a scout through my few relevant Czech glass books have yielded nothing useful.

Here are photos of all the colours I have, in case they ring any bells with anyone, and a close-up of the rim (neatly chamfered in and out, I'd forgotten to mention).

The label *seems* to be associated with Pierre Schneider, a Paris-based retailer (?). Seems to mostly turn up on very French-looking glass (abstract crystal lamps, big 'splash' shaped bowls), or in association with 'Made In France' and/or 'Opaline Veritable' labels.

There are a few mentions on the board, but nothing substantial, and not much coughed up by Google.

Kind of reminds me of the splashy type of thing La Rochere have done and I think splashy colourful is quite popular in France.
But wondering about German?
Poschinger perhaps?

Technically quite similar to a range by Friedrich Glas, Germany >> link
And they did quite a lot of this angular / hooped style glass in the 1960s/70s.
But I haven't seen the shape (or variety of colours) before...
