Help needed in ID of a Cranberry Glass Vase
« on: October 15, 2015, 02:11:17 PM »
Hi.
This my first post here I am asking for help in ID of a Cranberry Glass Vase I have had for some years.
It stands approx. 5.5 or 14cms tall and is 2ins or 5cms across it's ground level base and weighs in approx. 445g.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
Regards.
Joe.

Welcome to the forum Joe.

Fratelli Toso made vases that look a little similar but with white or opalino ribs that run vertically. Are the round and oval 'windows' on your vase cut?

John

Hi, John.
Thank you for your answer to my question.
I cannot think of another process other than cutting to achieve the round and oval windows, plus would I be able to tell if they were cut after the glass had been through all of it’s processes.
I think you are also correct in naming Fratteli Toso as the maker, there is a similarity to the one on 20th Century Glass.
On the Fratelli Toso guide and gallery there are photo’s of a “ green glass fluted vase with opalescent white vertical ribbing “ there are striking similarities between the two vases.
In my original post I should have added my photo’s don’t do the vase any justice It is very stunning in the correct light and very opalescent.
I look forward to your reply.
Joe.

PS
I will try to take a better photo.

You can achieve windows like that without cutting by blowing into a suitable mould and then reheating to achieve the opalescence. It looks mould blown to cut, thought the top rim is cut and polished

I meant mould blown rather than cut, sorry

I thought more likely moulded rather than cut too, the reason I asked about cut is that it looks a little bit (you have to use imagination here!) like a cut design from Blowzone. This sort of thing: http://www.millersantiquesguide.com/uploads/ImageRoot/medium/101002FLD_0878.jpg
