MDG Apple.........
« on: November 30, 2015, 12:32:38 PM »
Hi,

I bought this apple recently from Chris Cooper and thought it might be MDG...........

Last Friday Wolf Rayner visited and spotted the similarity to a MDG lollipop !

Very lovely .....does the apple have 'Battuto' to the base ?

Here's a link to a huge MDG bottle in a similar colourway .......

Not heavy Battuto but certainly a MDG well flatted base.

That looks a little like Besmo "Moro" glassware rather than anything Maltese.
Besmo is an African maker of goods from recycled stuff, and the Moro range is very, very like the grid Earthtones pattern too. But it is made differently, silver foil is used, the glassware is a bit thinner and can get that greasy feel and acidic smell.

There's an image of a small bowl in this (finished) auction.

I'd need to be able to inspect the internal structure of the strapping on the paperweight to be sure.
That image blurs a bit when I blow it up.
If that auction image I linked to disappears, I do have one of these Besmo bowls, purchased from the Museum of Science shop in London. (for £5)
I needed an example because it looked so like the Earthtones pattern. I was sure it would come in handy at a later date for identification purposes. It has!

I will add it to my ever-growing list of stuff that needs photographed.
