Dear Glassmessagers,

This is a real delight but taxing my knowledge.  :(

7" Tall x 5 1/4" mouth and 3 1/4" at mounting point. I really do not know where or who made it.  That's what adds to the fun.

So what I do see is filigrana (?) ribbons, one pink/cranberry in a uniform direction and the other pink and white, twisted form, running at 90 degrees to the white, in a slight spiral  shape towards the mouth of the shade. A satin glass/acid etch finish to exterior and un etched interior finish.

It just does not feel Italian. I'm drawn to English, London or Birmingham or........   :)

Can anyone help please?

With kind regards

Andrew

I cannot help but please could you add a photograph of the pontil mark on the base.  I assume it has a pontil mark and a  firepolished rim?
edited - I've just read it properly and realised it is a lampshade - apologies.
Is it iridescent or just satin glass? it has a slightly iridescent look to it.

Dear M,

it does have a very light iridescence though in no way paramount. BTW the interior is also satin not smooth as I previously thought.

Kind Regards

Andrew

it reminds me a teeny bit of these

I'm a bit confused by your photos - is there a fitter rim? is this a gas lamp shade or oil lamp shade with a wide fitter rim that sits in a metal support? or is it a hanging lamp shade?

Dear M,

thank you, remarkable, well found, great spotting.   :D

The Boda vase " filigrani " is very similar in construction though, in the vase, is a cased example; stunning. The lampshade seems " single skin " ( approx 2 mm thick ) and you can feel the filigrani form within the glass. It's not to the usual high quality/purity of glass atypical of Kosta with an area of sooty deposit within the glass and also the rim/mouth is slightly irregular...saying that I have a Kjellmann piece which is a little ropey too!

Re the " fitter rim " it could easily be both a hanging lampshade or even with a grubscrew fitment, fit an angle lamp.  It doesn't feel like an oil lamp shade from others I've seen however I'm not an expert on oil lamps.  :)

Kind Regards

Andrew
