Webb Wellington - Engravers name.
« on: March 07, 2016, 10:52:23 AM »
Dear All,

here's a toughie; there is no signature but engraved upon a large Webb Wellington Punch Bowl is a birds and a mountain scene. Would anybody be able to advance ideas as to who the engraver may have been?

With kind regards

Andrew

That's lovely. Is is marked Webb? I think your birds are pheasants, definitely not raptors. My local sparrowhawk would eat them for lunch

Dear Sue.

No Webb acid etched mark at all...unless they have hidden it! I keep looking for something...Nothing on the base which they usually have though below missing it too.

Is that a Scottish or Japonsesque style of finish of the mountain and blossoms? Any views on age?

BTW am still unsure if even pheasants.  :)

Glass...you've got to love it.

Kind Regards

Andrew

I'd say pheasants in Japan ... or Japanese pheasants ...

Asiatic pheasants are a commonly seen motif on blue and white pottery, so perhaps someone wanted glass to match?
