Your basket looks very similar. My bowl has quite heavy amounts of the gold stuff in the rim. It's gone to live under my bed until it finds a proper home!    ;D    Cheryl

I got my bowl out from under the bed,  ;D   I looked at it under a jewellers loop, it's got lots of very random sized blobs of copper coloured glitter. The pieces of glitter are really tiny. Definitley copper not gold colour.  Makes a nice Christmas fruit bowl.   Cheryl

Seen plenty of these over the years, they have all been made with gold leaf (probably picked up of the marver with the gather of clear glass). Yet to see one made with aventurine.

There is a good photo showing some gold on the base of a vase here, second image: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,19195.0.html

I can't get anything under my bed >:(             These modern divan type beds go all the way to the floor, and you'd be lucky to get a fag paper underneath.........   Cheryl, may I store some of my glass under your bed please? ;)

Sorry Paul, there's no room left under there,  ;D    Have to leave room for one of my greyhounds, she gets under my side if shes frightened by fireworks etc, get yourself a nice iron framed bed, loads of room for boxes of glass or the odd dog or two.   Cheryl

Saw another of these bowls today and it undoubtedly had aventurine and not gold leaf around the rim....

Ho hum!

Not in this case Paul, at least I don't think so. Mica has a silver appearance rather than yellow or gold, and usually you can see individual flakes. Again, in this case, there are small clumps of material - each of those clumps containing many small sparkly particles. One characteristic of aventurine appears to be a very small particle size - usually looking much smaller than the other possibilities.

The only time I have seen mica look yellow is when covered with amber glass, as in this jug: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,51869.0.html
