J Glass Pansy Paperweight Letter Cane Help
« on: May 19, 2016, 05:49:55 PM »
Hi,
I have this pansy paperweight that I believe is by J Glass 1980, also has a letter A cane. Is that the artist that made this piece?
This is 2 1/2" diameter.
Any information appreciated.
Mary

Hi Mary

You are correct it is a J glass weight - Thats the J cane.

The A cane is Allan Scott's cane who was the lampworker
at J Glass. Towards the end of J Glass the A cane was included
in recognition of the lampworking in the weight.

Many years later John Deacons collaborated with WIllie Manson
on two series of weights and they carry a J cane for John Deacons
and a WM cane for Willlie Manson

Hope this helps

Derek

Marvellous, thank-you Derek! Slowly this is all sinking in. I didn't notice the A cane until I was looking at the photos on my computer.
I have another J Glass weight that just has the same date canes, I'll have to have a closer look and see if there is a letter cane that I missed.
