Hi,
any ideas? - have scoured the internet but cannot identify manufacturer or pattern/design - no label or maker's mark.
platter (or shallow bowl - mostly flat with raised rim) - 33-34 cm diameter,  abt. 3cm deep, heavy (weighs 1.7kg!) - smooth topside, distinctive textured pattern underside
Any help appreciated - thank you.

some better pictures and additional info.:
glass thickness 5-6mm
as well as being heavily patterned, the underside also has an overall "orange peel"  effect

Hello and welcome to GMB!
This bowl reminds me of some Czech Sklo Union patterns post WWII however couldn't find an exact match so far, sorry! Scandinavia and Italy are further possibilities, working on it...  :)

Thanks for your suggestions - apologies for not replying sooner

Pamela, - you appear to have been spot-on!

-Tonight (!),  whilst looking for something completely different, I spotted a similarly patterned/textured piece of clear glass on Etsy :

https://www.etsy.com/listing/528411515/sklo-union-czechoslovakia-mesto-serving

A further search for: Sklo Union, Vaclav Zajic, and Mesto    turned up two others - one in clear glass and the other in blue - on eBay

(auction ended)

- is this pattern referenced in in Newhall's "Sklo Union" book? - or elsewhere?
I've tried the Sklo-union website(s) - and others - but there is no mention of this particular design.

Many thanks

I've looked in the book. The Etsy one looks plausible for Mesto but I'm not convinced by yours or the other two I'm afraid

I'm dubious myself. I strongly suspect contemporary and possibly something such as Arcoroc or Arcopal.
I'm sure see a lot of these in charity shops.

Lustrousstone-

Here is a new photo taken at a similar angle to the Etsy-listed serving platter for comparison
-  the very distinctive "C"-shaped blocks, oblongs and deep groves etc. appear to match exactly (?)
...or are there other features detailed in Newhall's book that are absent/different ?

 - was this pattern reproduced by other companies?

more re: poss.  Václav Zajíc  "Město"  [= City/Town] (Sklo Union platter)

http://www.cs-sklo.cz/ceskoslovenskesklo/25-STARE-CLANKY-OLD-ARTICLES/1023-Vaclav-Zajic

[Google translation of extract] "The name of Václav Zajíc is mainly associated with Libochovické pressed glass, its [his?]  angular vase with roses (20240) belongs among the worshiped patterns of collectors of pressed glass, as well as dishes, bowls and plates pressed without a ring, for example, the "City" (3559)"  [photo shows example, - unfortunately rather blurred]
[- is "3559" the pattern number?, - are there any old trade catalogues available which might show the design and available colours?]

Picclick UK (same eBay result as previous posting but shows all photos together):

title suggests that this was part of a series or set.

OK, I'm fairly certain that I've got all the proof I need - unless someone proves to me otherwise! (e.g. that it's a reproduction/fake):

...another thread on this website:
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=55848.50
-contains a link to a Google Album showing several pages of text and photos from a catalogue of Václav Zajíc's (exhibited?) works:
https://plus.google.com/photos/104509467784289017506/albums/5443336658623576049?banner=pwa&authkey=CKG4m-Dmusmi6wE

(extract):
"Město" pattern shown in index to photos:
"9/  Miska a talíř, v.č. 3559/140, 210, Libochovice 1976"
[Google Translate: "9/  Bowl and plate, no. 3559/140, 210, Libochovice 1976"]

b/w photo - image #9 showing plate and bowl

"ocenění" [Awards]:
...
"Vynikající výrobek roku 1976: soubor „Město" (talíře, mísy v.č. 3559/140, 210)"  [ v.č. = (product number?)]
[Google translate:   "Outstanding product of the year 1976: set "Town " (plates, bowls no. 3559/140, 210)" ]
(with apologies to any native Czech speakers for any transcription & translation errors !)

I've overlaid the image of the b/w image over my plate - and there's an exact match in the central pattern area (the 2 plates are different sizes)...

[Mod: Sorry, rummager, but the black & white image and the catalogue it is in are most likely still in copyright. So Board Policy on use of copyright material applies and your montaged image has been removed.]
