MDG Dog with label - A question
« on: August 26, 2016, 02:15:03 PM »
I have read the information available on the board, but still  little uncertain.

My question is; how can I tell if a piece is Chinese, or actually made at the MDG glass house?

My little fella seems very well made, with puppy dog eyes and a black nose (inside the glass) and a very expressional face. His whole body is incredibly tactile with defined features. He even has a frown line above his eyes  :P  Having said that, I haven't studied a Chinese made animal before.
He is 3 7/8" (95mm) in height, 3 7/8" (95mm) in length & 2 1/8" (55mm) wide
I just happened to find this today at a car boot and he followed me home  ;D

TIA
x

It was the aniseed in your trouser turn-ups.  ;)
Nice find, Della.

Hi,
Your dog looks correct and has an early MDG label........

My only concern is that the label has been stuck on top of another.

If you are ever going to part with it please let me know because it could join the dog I have....... Image to follow.

When I find it !!!!!!!

The question is fairly easily answered.
There was a myth banded about that MDG was importing piece from China and sticking their own labels on them. This myth had no proof, it was just presumed that because it looked Chinese then it must have came from China.
I am in close contact with an ex-MDG worker and he categorically states that no pieces were imported from China and labelled as MDG. These of course were made by the Chinese at MDG who owned the company.
There are quite a lot of similar Chinese and MDG pieces, no doubt made by the same workers either before or after left they MDG. We are now just starting to tell the difference between some of them.  The round labels are the early ones and were certainly used at the time the Chinese were still there. They were there no longer than 2 years and were training the locals.
Something you like, mail me! :)

Maybe the owner removed the MDG label from sight and stuck it on the stock label
