Un Identified Crystal Wine Glass ????
« on: September 15, 2016, 01:55:10 PM »
Its has been a while since my last visit but feel this is the only place I might get an answer. I have 10 Wine Glasses that I feel are top quality and should have been an easy one to find but lots of searching and a good few emails I have drawn a blank. No Markings but are beautifully and expertly cut IMHO. A lot of work!  I would appreciate any help at all !

Please see photos below.  ;D

Yes, the pics are big enough for me ... but I have no idea about the glasses ... nice cutting though.

sorry, can't remotely help with an id of maker - but first thoughts are that notches on the arrises is not a U.K. thing, generally...   not to say we haven't done them, but I would be more inclined to think Continental  -   same thought applies re those little daisy wheel cuts  -  I'd be thinking German or Czechoslovakian as a suggestion.

I agree Paul, looking towards Germany. We do have knotched stems on Edinburgh 'Royal' crystal glasses, (I think) and the 'cartwheel' is mainly Bohemian with a few Uk makers using within patterns. The finer cuts in these glasses are almost perfectly spaced as are the cartwheels so Germany might be the place. They are of good quality and Ireland was my initial thought and I expected to find a mark but none to find. I see Irish crystal as heavier and a clarity that is easy to spot in a table full of glasses and these looked the part. Thanks for a new perspective as I had become a bit brain foggy !

Hi, if a seach is done for PK500 lead crystal, it shows Czech "pinwheel" decoration of this type. However, there are reliable sources that show highly similar "pinwheel" decor as being English patterns, referred to as "Russian" (!) A search of this site suggests American factories also produced similar patterns. .. I would hope for a tiny acid mark on the foot one one glass to help further, unless a chance discovery occurs. The fact you are in England may help the possibilty that they may be English "Russian" patterns..

I just went over all 10 glasses with my loop just in case I missed something but not a mark on them anywhere sadly.
Not a lot of photos on the crystal replacement and a google search does not give much up. The cut we are referring to as  Pinwheel design is not on these glasses, it is more a very small Star cut as used on the foot. I am still working my way through patterns on German Crystal and will get to the Dorflinger and Russian Cut soon. Thanks so far everyone. :)
