I think this is a Murano perfume bottle? Can anyone help?
« on: October 04, 2016, 06:27:53 PM »
Hi.  Hope someone can help.  I found this some time ago in Yorkshire UK and after research I think it could be a Murano perfume bottle missing its stopper.  I'm more than happy to be corrected as I know absolutely nothing about perfume bottle and so it's purely a guess after seeing some similar(ish) items on the web.  Highly polished flat base and also two sides have also been cut and polished.  If it is Murano and it is a perfume bottle has anyone any ideas as to designer and date?  It measures 12 cms (5,5 inches) tall x 8.5 cms (almost 3.5 inches in diameter) and is very heavy for its size at just over 800 gms (1 ib 12 oz).  I have also seen 'Murano' perfume bottle from China during my searches but nothing similar (as yet) to this but if anyone does recognize it as Chinese (or any other country) please let me know.  Thanks

I think this is Chinese, recent production (within the last 10+ years) and sold via British Heart Foundation. I have one almost the same shape in a different colour-way, with stopper. I can't find a photo of it (I was sure it was on the board somewhere but hey-ho...) I'll take another set of pics and add them for you to compare - most likely be tomorrow.  Quality wise you would struggle to guess Chinese, and the base is polished beautifully clear and flat like yours.

I did wonder about modern - there's virtually no wear on the base.  Like you say nice quality with a good base and (imho) good cased blue at the base.  Happy to find out it's modern Chinese though - another one for the 'memory bank' to watch out for.  Thanks

I was really surprised by how good my example is compared to some of the earlier stuff. It's not perfect but the base especially does not shout China.  It has the same ridges and flat panels as yours does, but has an iridised finish...

... ahhh I managed to find the photos so you can see for yourself. :)
