Blue glass fishing float?

This heavy thick blue glass ball has a snapped off pontil. Approx 12 cm diameter
I think it is a fishing float but would be interested to know if it has broken or is supposed to be like that - and how old it might be.
there is lettering on it that says Torre Del Greco
