Vase, Gallé style, possible w/ signature. Info wanted
« on: December 04, 2016, 03:34:09 PM »
Vase (see pictures) with what I think is a signature, for me not readible and I do not recognise it. The yellow surface is uneven and lies deeper than the blue decoration. The vase is matte, but some parts of the leaves are clear blue, like a clear ice layer.

Who can tell me more about this vase, in particular the maker and technique used. Many thanks in advance for all input, much appriciated.

Hi maaswijk, welcome to the GMB.

The technique of making is cameo work, which can be two or more layers of different coloured glass cut through by acid etching and, for better quality items, finished by hand carving.

It is hard to see the detail of the possible signature in your photo. But if this was a genuine Galle item I would expect the signature to be obvious and not seemingly attached to part of the decoration. Also, the "signature part" does not seem as clear as even the Romanian or Chinese copies.

Could you get a closer shot of the "signature part"? And a pic of the whole item would be good to see - for reference.

Dear all, thank you for your responses. Please find attached a picture of the vase in full, one of the signature and one of the base.

Thanks for the revised pics Charlotte.

I suspect that the vase is of the Chinese "Yalle" [or "Yall"] variety (an imitation of "Galle"). The signature on yours is not easy to determine but it does have elements of the "Yalle" ones.

For example: Galle Cameo Glass? - ID = Yalle

Another thread discussing a queried Galle vase, and mentioning the Chinese "Yalle" types is:
IS THIS GALLE REAL OR FAKE?
