posy vase made for metal stand?
« on: February 03, 2017, 10:04:24 AM »
I got this vase (about 8 cm tall) in a lot of 5 vases and didn't think much of it. It wasn't my reason for buying the lot. Then I saw this metal stand of similar vases on ebay. I never imagined this type of vase was made to go in a stand but maybe someone can correct me.

The vases in the link look ok to me - the metal grabber is made with an opening to gently push the glass into - normally they would be in a closed fused circle of metal with the glass sliding into it from top (thinking epergne cone shaped glass e.g.).

The whole thing reminds me of a Bagley 50s or 60s type piece,  perhaps it is an Italian version thereof?  Or maybe it is a Bagley type stand that was made to have three Bagley bits in it and someone's replaced with the Italian vases?
But I think it looks ok

My guess is Italian vase imports put into UK-made frames by or for the UK wholesaler

thank you both

I've learned something new. I didn't know these vases were Italian (I was skeptical of the ebay seller calling them "Venetian") nor that they were used in a stand.

I don't think they are Venetian  :-[

I've been ever curious as to where all these supposed Venetian blue green and red vases, plates, bowls with silver gondolas on them were made.

oops - well there you go.

But 'decorated' rather than 'made'.  Perhaps they are Empoli glass or Bormioli? was that around in the 50s/60s
