Peter Layton Paperweight ID help please
« on: February 12, 2017, 08:48:47 PM »
Hi all

99% this is a Peter Layton signed weight which I brought at Ally Pally fair today, but wanted to know if it was a range, or more unusual.  It is rather huge and weighs about a ton.

thanks all!

Ian

An update for the records.  I was told whilst at the cambridge glass fair at Knebworth, that this is an early piece!

it has similar bits in to a giant sculpture type thing I own

This turned up and is actually signed 1985 and Peter Layton.  It is iridescent but appears to use the same/similar colour frits yours has.

I also owned another studio glass paperweight in the same design as yours from a similar period but maybe a bit earlier, from one of the British makers resident at the Glass studio in London at the time.
I'll try and see if I can find any reference to it - I think the design and the period might be very slightly earlier than 1985.

Ah, I was thinking of this one but it was dated 1990
