Signature Help: 1974 Dated Figurine
« on: February 20, 2017, 07:03:43 PM »
Hello all -
Does anyone recognize the signature on this figurine? Picked the cute little fellow up at a thrift the other day and I've had no luck trying to find it...it is dated 1974 after the signature, which I simply can't seem to make out.
Thanks so much -
KatW.

Hi Anne -
Thank you so much - it just might say Lorenzo! I will research that name.

It's so hard to tell with hand-written signatures...if you look at the first letter a little sideways, it looks like a W...and sometimes the last letter looks like an o and sometimes we wonder if it could be the loop for a p...

Anyway, thanks so much for your help - I'll post back if I find anything on a Lorenzo.
Cheers,
KatW

It looks like Lorenzo to me too, but the figure itself reminds me very much of figurines of dwarves I saw everywhere on holiday in Wroclaw in Poland.
There are lots of little dwarf statues around the city, doing various things. Models of them are available to buy as souvenirs.

I also have a vase type glass piece with the signature of “v Lorenzo ?????” Curious was any light shedded on this artist? Mine is dated looks like 1987. Just curious if someone is just scribing Lorenzo on random glass pieces lol. My research has came short for any relation to his name and work.

I got curious about this one.....how hard can it be when we've actually got a signature??

So far I have a Lorenzo Passi whose work is quite sculptural, combines glass and metal and, from his picture, he doesn't look old enough to have been making things in 1974.

Then Lorenzo Glass paperweight, retailed by Dynasty Gallery in USA and made in China - label but not signed.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/223367858719

Ferro Lorenzo - pieces labelled "Vetro Artistico Murano" with "FL" in the centre, but not signed.  Worth knowing about for their animals.

Lorenzo Tartari signs pieces "Marty Murano".

Angelo Lorenzo makes some really bold, unusual pieces......I don't know what most of them are for, but I do like his work.
Not sure if they are signed though

Lorenzo Radi's Chalcedony glass is just gorgeous, but 19th century.

I'm stumped.  No "Lorenzo the Dwarf" or "Lorenzo the Gnome".....worth checking in case either of those were from some sort of fantasy series, or Disney character.

A search of the GMB only brought up Lorenzo Vigier (book reference) and Lorenzo Radi.  Very surprised there weren't more Lorenzo's, given we see a lot of Italian glass on the board.

Great fun though, and I learnt a lot as well.

Maybe Janson's right and there is somebody randomly signing "Lorenzo" on pieces of glass!  ;D

I have a conclusion for my situation. A famous Lorenzo porcelli is known for a very odd lamp me did around 1986. The snap of mine appears to be something that goes on a lamp. I’m stumped. I actually am in contact with Lorenzo porcelli’s daughter. Hopefully she can help me on this. Thank you for your reply.

Is it Lorenzo? I thought it started Lob... Maybe Lobmeyr? Though I have absolutely no idea what they were retailing mid 20th century. Laugh it out of the park if it's a stupid suggestion.
