Unusual well engraved 61/4" diameter plate maybe for a finger bowl.
I think it is well made has a RI by a crown and 18 to the base..
Any ideas for what or whom it may have been made commemorative or other 18 on the base maybe table setting number or makers number?
Thank you for looking at it.

very interesting piece - certainly worth spending a little time trying to run down its origins and meaning, in my opinion.   Sorry can't help with any worthwhile suggestions though.            The font/script for the 81 looks oldish, and certainly not a modern face.        I suppose if pushed you might contact some branch of the Royal Household etc. and request their suggestion of possible origins...................   on the other hand if it was theirs originally, they might ask for it back ;)

It might also be worth doing a search through the images in this section of Wikipedia to see if you can find a match for the design:  https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Royal_monograms

Looks like a 1930's butter dish base, pressed glass ones are fairly common have a look on Google.

Put in Art Deco glass butterdish.

Regards Chris.

Strikes me RI = Royal Insurance perhaps.  Or RI = Royal Institution.  Or even RI =  Royal Inniskilling.

All of which have a "Royal" connection.  The Tudor crown was the official symbol up to the end of George the 6ths death.
