Unknown contemporary vase. Chinese or something else?
« on: April 12, 2017, 06:34:02 PM »
Any suggestions welcomed ;)  Clear cased, mottled white with added decoration.  Large polished pontil mark on the base.  Seems to be well made and fairly heavy.
I'm sure I've seen something like this some where before.  I was told it was "mid-century" and came from a house clearance.
Thank you :-*

It looks familar, might be Polish maybe? Maybe worth checking the Jozefina website and that other one, i forgot the name now.

Thanks TC for your suggestion :-*   I  looked at Polish glass as a possibility, so thanks for that.  For some reason I can't access the Josefina website, but did a general Google search and nothing similar came up.  Also looked at Krosno Glasworks ( I bet that was the one you were thinking of ???), Makora and Adam Jablonski.  Still lots of other areas to look at too ::)
Will get back if my search is successful.

Svaja may be worth a look, although not sure where they source their glass.

Many thanks folks for your comments ;)
I've found a Svaja scarlet orchid vase with a very similar decoration seen here http://glassandsculpture.thealexandermilesgallery.com/product/scarlet-orchid-tall-vase with its red splodge and black trail, so that could be a possibility.  An old posting gives details of Svaja glass, but its unknown where the actual glass is made as Svaja is a brand not a manufacturer.  I'm afraid I can't add a direct link ::) but typing "Svaja glass, Lithuania" into the search box will bring it up.

I was wondering Svaja, or that other contemporary decor (ceramics, glass, artifical flowers) organisation, Sia, or even perhaps made in Poland for Dartington's "Innovate" range. I reckon it is new(ish) and reasonably well made.

Thanks Mods for the shorter link ;)
I've googled Sia but haven't come up with anything similar Sue.  I can't find out too much about Dartington's Innovate range.  I agree with you that it is fairly newish, certainly well made. I also googled Tarnowiec, but nothing similar there either.  I'm certainly going to use it to hold flowers :)

I don't know where the Sia stuff comes from either, I've seen it in (expensive) home furnishing places.
An alternative use for something this size is as the wastepaper bin in the loo or under your desk.  ;D
They look fabulous and are functional.

I use a (water damaged, but not by me) Sam Herman for VSL vase for vegetation if I absolutely have to stick some somewhere.  ;D
