green and white basket
« on: May 07, 2017, 12:32:28 PM »
Hello all,

I hope you don't mind helping me out with identifying this basket.
It's about 7 inches tall and 4 inches across.
The glass may be uranium, with a milky/opalescent inlay.
The seams are very prominent.
I don't know any history.
I've done a good web search and can't find anything that looks like it.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome.  :)
We have plenty of techie. tips and info on how to post images directly to the board here

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34093.msg362679.html#new

and we really do appreciate images being posted directly, because images hosted elsewhere have a nasty habit of disappearing, leaving a thread with discussion and information, unillustrated.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Hi Nikki,

Another point about Piniterest is that for non-members, the site overlays a greyed out area and covers the images we want to look at.

If you have trouble loading images to the GMB, just ask.

It looks as if it's a part of a bigger set of something, with this being a basket to hang on it.
Can we ask you to post a pic of the base, please? We like looking at bottoms here. ;D
We can tell a lot from bottoms, even ones that look as if there is nothing special there. The sort of "nothing special" helps to refine and eliminate things from the search.

 :)
Oh no, that is really quite informative.  ;D
It's been blown into a mould, the bottom part looks roughly polished (what does it feel like, please?) and there is a star cut (unless it is all pressed, but the handle would then have to be added).

Any form of cutting or polishing on glass means somebody has put a good bit of time and effort into it, so a fully polished base would indicate quality, a roughly polished one, perhaps not so much quality and just something done to make it stand level.
So, if the base is star cut, that means something good.

Can I see a triangle shape in the middle of the star, or is that not actually there?
Sorry for so many questions and for asking for more images.

This isn't even really my area of glass, but I'm sure somebody will be able to help a bit.
We don't give up here.  :)
